Our Story
The Heart Behind Paw Prayers
Hi, I'm Brandy, the founder of Paw Prayers.
I've spent the last several years bringing Paw Prayers to life, and I'm so happy to finally share it with you. It's a project that means more to me than I can probably put into words, and one that began during one of the most difficult times in my life.
In February 2022, I lost my two beloved dogs, Jackson and Molly, just two weeks apart. They had spent 15 years together and were truly soulmates. They were my kiddos, and we were so deeply connected. Losing them so close together was devastating.
If you've read Gentle Nudges on our homepage, you know about the night I lit a prayer candle, asked God for a sign, and discovered Sirius, the Dog Star, shining above me. It was an experience that brought me an unexpected sense of peace and strengthened my belief that the souls of those we love remain connected to us, even after they're gone.
What stayed with me just as much was the comfort I found in the days that followed. Grief has a way of making everything feel unfamiliar, and I remember feeling completely lost. Each evening, I returned to the simple ritual of lighting a candle. I lit 13 candles before I finally felt ready to stop. Those quiet moments gave me something to hold on to, a little time to pray, reflect, and feel close to Jackson and Molly when I needed it most.

I was also incredibly blessed by the kindness of friends who sent gifts and thoughtful gestures to honor them. There was something so comforting about knowing they were remembered and loved by others, too. I began thinking about how much those gestures meant to me, and how the simple act of lighting a candle had helped me through those first difficult weeks. I wanted to create something that might offer another person even a small measure of that same comfort. That was the beginning of Paw Prayers.
Bringing Paw Prayers to Life
What I didn't realize then was just how much it would take to turn that idea into something real. I'd never developed a product or built an e-commerce business before, and there was an entirely new world to learn. From finding the right manufacturing partners to working through the design and countless details, it's been a process of figuring things out as I go. There have been setbacks, changes in direction, and plenty of moments when things took longer than I hoped.
But I think the most personal part of this journey has been learning to share something that came from such a vulnerable place. Paw Prayers isn't simply a product I wanted to bring to market. It's rooted in my faith, my love for Jackson and Molly, and an experience that changed the way I think about our connection to those we've lost. Putting something so close to my heart into the world feels a little raw, even now. I care deeply about getting it right, and perhaps that's part of why I've taken my time.
Through it all, the reason I started has never changed. I remember how much I needed those moments of comfort, and I hope Paw Prayers can become part of someone else's experience in a meaningful way.

Looking Toward the Future
I've had a longtime dream of opening an animal rescue. It's something close to my heart, especially because of our sweet Bear, whom we adopted from PAWS. He became such a special part of our family, and I know firsthand how much love can come from giving an animal a home.
As Paw Prayers began taking shape, I saw an opportunity to turn that dream into something with an even broader reach.
I established the Paw Prayers Animal Foundation with the vision of supporting rescues and organizations already doing the difficult, often underfunded work of caring for animals in need. Rather than building something entirely new, I'd love to help strengthen the people and organizations who have already dedicated themselves to this work, giving them more resources to help more animals.
While we're still working toward launching the foundation's giving programs, my hope is that, over time, it becomes a lasting legacy for Jackson, Molly, our Bear, and all the beloved pets who have gone before us, one that continues making a difference for animals long into the future.
