Gentle Nudges
Hi, I’m Brandy Kaeshoefer, and I want to share my story with you. The story that led me here.
Paw Prayers began with a sign from the heavens. After 15 years together, our sweet Jackson passed away in February of 2022. He had been so strong for so long, giving me time to prepare and soak up every extra snuggle. In those final weeks, I often asked him that when his time came, would he send me a sign from heaven to let me know he was okay and still with me.
The night Jackson left us, I placed an altar where his bed had been, lit a prayer candle, and knelt in prayer. I thanked God for blessing me with Jackson, asked for comfort, and whispered aloud, “Please send me a sign.” Moments later, I looked up and saw one bright, solitary star shining in the night sky. No others...just one. My heart smiled, and I felt Jackson’s love.
But God wasn’t finished. I felt a gentle nudge to open a stargazing app. At first I hesitated, still in prayer, but the feeling persisted. When I finally held my phone to the sky, pointed at that single star, the app chimed. Slowly, an image of a dog faded into the frame. The star was Sirius, the Dog Star, in the constellation Canis Major. The peace I felt in that moment was that kind that only God can provide. I then understood that Jackson’s light would never go out.
In the days and weeks that followed, I lit a prayer candle for Jackson every night. That ritual became my steady place of healing, a trusted constant through the waves of grief. Sadly, Jackson's soul mate, our sweet Molly, passed just two weeks later. The grief and heaviness we feel during these dark times leave us feeling so lost. Lighting the candle every night grounded me when I didn't know what else to do.
My prayer is that Paw Prayers candles will offer a way to find comfort when the world moves on too quickly. Take the moment, light the candle, feel their love, and perhaps most importantly, look up.
In loving memory
